the prowl again. A
great selection of Jaguars were to be seen at the Silverstone Classic meeting.
From a child's E type in the auction to virtually every model in the club displays
or on the track, there was a variety from different decades.  There
was a hard fought battle in the tourist Trophy race for pre 66 GT cars between
the E type driven by Cottingham brothers and the Ferrari driven by Oliver and
Pearson. The Ferrari started on pole with the Jaguar on row 2 on the other side
of the track. Swopping the lead several times and always on each other's bumper
the race provided some nail biting thrills. The E type led in the early stages
but the Ferrari had the edge in the last five laps. Eventually Oliver and Pearson
winning by just twenty seconds.
A
taste of Le Mans in past days was provided by XJR 8, 14 and 16 that featured in
the Group C races. The XJR16 was a DNF in the first race and the XJR14 did not
run in the second. However the sound of these machines on the track brings back
memories of the Mulsanne straight. The
Stirling Moss Trophy race for pre-61 sports cars provided a good selection of
Lister Jaguars and a Tojeiro. John Minshaw brought home the trophy in his Knobbly
Lister. The
Woodcote Trophy for pre 56 sports cars provided the opportunity to see a C type
and several D types do battle on the track. The Pearson duo bringing their D type
home in second place behind a Cooper T38. Following
on from last year's E type race a large number of E types took part in this year's
races. 
The
auction provided a variety of leaping cats from a child's E type, XKs, full size
E type, XJ220 and a Mark 1. 
The
club displays provided a variety including C type replicas, XJ220, XJR15 and numerous
E types. As
next year is the 25th event it should be a weekend to remember. Results Photos |
